INSPIRATION: ART & DESIGN: MARTIN PARR'S REAL FOOD
I’m a huge fan of Martin Parr. Although I think I love his books more than his shows. I went to see Only Human at the National Portrait Gallery (find my pictures here…) and it was great but there’s something about flicking through one of his books that gives me so much joy. One of my favourite photography books of all time is Martin Parr.
So when I saw that there was a new book I was excited, when I saw that it was focused on food I was even more excited. Some of my favourite parts of documentary photography is seeing what people, real people, are eating, and this is what we did in the days before instagram. It’s completely different from the #foodporn you’re used to on instagram, these photos are even more real. The book spans decades and continents and puts them all together without any context and I think everything about it is wonderful. The country indexes are at the back so you can have fun trying to guess which countries eat which food and it’s interesting to try and guess during what time these pictures were taken.
