JUST FINISHED WATCHING: THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY (2019–2024)
A family of former child heroes, now grown apart, must reunite to continue to protect the world.
TRIVIA: "My Chemical Romance" frontman Gerard Way penned the original comic series.
Gerard Way provided vocals for three songs featured in the show- "Happy Together" and "Hazy Shade of Winter" for Season 1 and "Here Comes The End" for Season 2.
Aidan Gallagher (Five) was not allowed to be on set during any gun fight scenes because of child labor laws. Instead a body double was used.
Netflix changed the credits in season one and two from Ellen to Elliott Page to show support for Elliott.
MY VERDICT: I find it quite hard to review this show. I literally just started to watch it to put something on in the background while doing some drawing or design work. I was a couple of seasons behind so I had a bit to binge and it was totally watchable. And I must have liked it somewhat because I continued to watch all the new episodes when they became available. But in some ways I do find this show annoying, and I’m not sure if it’s because it’s not really my kind of thing which is totally on me and not on them. The thing that annoyed me the most though were the obvious and often egregious needle-drops, especially during the action and fight scenes. The first couple of times it was fine, it made sense, but it happened over and over again and I got quite bored by it. I felt like at a certain point it stopped trying to be new and innovative in its story telling. I did like the acting and most of the characters though, especially Number 5, who was my favourite through the whole show run. And despite not being a fan of time travel, I think time was dealt with well throughout the series. I did think the whole thing was a bit too long and it seemed like some whole series or sections of series were a waste of time and the storytelling got worse as time went on.
